A gift card is money today for work you will do later. That is genuinely useful for a salon — it funds stock before a festival season, and it brings in a client who arrives already paid for. It is also a liability sitting on your books until somebody redeems it.
Sell them when people are already buying gifts: Diwali, weddings, birthdays, the fortnight before Valentine's. Keep the denominations round and few, because three options sell better than eight, and offer a service card alongside the value card — "a facial" is easier to give than "₹2,000". Sell at the counter as well as online; most gift-card sales still happen face to face.
Then track them properly. You want to know how much is outstanding, what share gets redeemed, and how much a gift-card client spends beyond the card's value, which is usually where the profit actually is. If you set an expiry, print it on the card and apply it consistently — an unredeemable gift card is a poor first impression with a client somebody else paid for.
