Why a nail salon's calendar behaves differently

Nail services span a wider range of durations than almost any other salon category. A file-and-polish is twenty minutes; a full set of gel extensions with art can run past two hours; a soak-off plus rebalance sits somewhere in between. If the booking system treats them as interchangeable slots, your day either overruns or leaves gaps nobody can fill.

Stations matter as much as staff. Two technicians can work simultaneously only if you have two stations free, and a client under a lamp occupies a station without occupying the technician. Building availability from real service durations, with turnaround between clients, is what keeps a Saturday from collapsing by mid-afternoon.

Product cost per service is unusually visible here. Gel, tips, files and wraps are consumed per client, so stock that deducts automatically at checkout — and warns you before a colour runs out mid-set — is the difference between knowing your margin and guessing it. Retail polish sold at the till is the easiest add-on in the building and the one most often forgotten.

Because nail clients return on a tight cycle — two to three weeks for gel — the rebooking prompt at checkout is worth more than any promotion. A client who leaves with their next appointment booked comes back; one who plans to 'call later' often doesn't.
